What Is Jeeravan? The Masala Behind Indori Poha
What jeeravan masala is, what is in it, and how Indore uses it on poha, sev and snacks.
A sprinkle, not a cooking masala
Jeeravan is a tangy, spicy masala from Indore. It goes on food at the end, which is why a plate of Indori poha smells of it before you take a bite.
What is in it
Sunder Jeeravan is made with red chilli, dry mango, coriander, turmeric, cassia, citric acid, black pepper, cloves, dry ginger, cumin, cinnamon and hing.
How to use it
Sprinkle it on poha with sev and onion. It also works on upma, boiled corn, fried snacks and fruit.
